Timor-Leste Women

Dili has a national stadium with room for 5,000, and the women's team rarely gets to use it for a match that counts. The floodlights and the seating fall short of FIFA standards. So the "home" fixtures of The Rising Sun , a name taken from Timór Lorosa'e, the Tetum name for the country, have been played in Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia and Taiwan.

The team's first recorded international was on 27 July 2016 at the AFF Women's Championship, a 0–17 loss to Myanmar. On 15 August 2019, in the same tournament, Timor-Leste beat Singapore 2–1, and Luselia Fernandes scored the first goal of the win.

Under head coach Emral Bustamam, the side reached the semi-finals of the 2024 AFF Women's Cup and finished fourth, its best result. Cambodia won the semi-final 3–0. Maria de Conceição, the captain and the holder of the most caps with eight, played in a squad that also relied on the goalkeepers Madalena Soares and Gorette da Costa. In June 2025, in qualifying for the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup, a 0–0 draw with Iraq gave the team its first point in an Asian Football Confederation competition.

It was the opponent for the 2019 win, and it took the bronze medal match in 2024 by 1–0, leaving Timor-Leste one place short of the podium.
