Velké Meziříčí

Žďár nad Sázavou is the name that matters most in Velké Meziříčí. FC Žďas Žďár nad Sázavou are the opponents in the district derby, and the feeling carries across sports: in ice hockey, the rival is SKLH Žďár nad Sázavou. Closer to home, FC PBS Velká Bíteš are the other side the club measures itself against, a neighbour with a shared past.

The club began in 1906 as SK Velké Meziříčí. Locally it is called Velmez, a contraction of the town's name, and it plays in red, white and blue.

The trophies are regional. The Jihomoravský kraj Cup came in 1986, the Kraj Vysočina Cup in 2004 and the Pearl Cup (Perleťový pohár) in 2019.

Pavel Simr scored 72 goals in the Moravian-Silesian Football League (MSFL). Patrik Chalupa is the other name that comes up. He made his MSFL debut at 16 years and 352 days.

The club now plays in the 4. Liga, Divize D, the fourth tier of Czech football, at Stadion U Tržiště, which holds 2,500. The Žďár derbies remain on the calendar, and each season Velmez have to earn them again in that league.
