Tatran Bohunice

TJ Tatran Bohunice grew out of that district: in 1958 club members put in more than 3,800 hours of volunteer labour to build the stadium themselves, under the state programme known as Akce Z.

The club has carried the neighbourhood's changing names along with it. Founded on 20 July 1929 as SK Slavoj Brno-Bohunice, it was renamed under Sokol in 1948, became DSO Tatran in 1953, then TJ Tatran, and settled on its current form, TJ Tatran Bohunice, only in 2013.

Football at Tatran has stayed resolutely local. The club's honours are regional titles rather than national ones — the South Moravian Regional Championship, won four times, most recently in 2021–22 — and its one brush with something higher came in 2022–23, when third place in the Czech Fourth Division brought an administrative promotion to the Moravian-Silesian Football League. The step up lasted a single season; Tatran finished bottom and went back down. Karel Jarůšek, a former top-flight player, had earlier taken the team to a South Moravian Cup win and a runner-up league finish in 2018–19, and it was under Luboš Kučerňák that the club first went up, in 2010–11.

Football shares the club with a handball section that has quietly done just as well: the men's team has reached the second tier of Czech handball, and matches against TJ Start Brno, the closest of Tatran's rivals, are still known around Bohunice as the Brno derby.

This season, in the Fourth Division, Tatran sit top of the table after seven matches.
