Wegberg-Beeck

Before the war it was Sportverein 1920 Beeck, a village side in a district of Wegberg. After it, the name shortened to SC Beeck, and it stayed that way until July 1996, when the club took the name it carries now, FC Wegberg-Beeck. The four-leaf clover on the badge gave the supporters their nickname, the Clovers.

The clover has not brought steady luck. Between 1994 and 2024 the club changed leagues 15 times. The pattern is clearest at the fourth tier. Wegberg-Beeck won the Mittelrheinliga, the fifth tier, in 2015, 2017 and 2020, and went up to the Regionalliga West each time. They went up a fourth time in 2023. Every one of those promotions ended in relegation.

The best single day came earlier, in 2008. Winning the Middle Rhine Cup earned a place in the first round of the DFB-Pokal, the German Cup, and the draw sent them to Alemannia Aachen, the one Beeck regards as its neighbourhood rival. Aachen won 4–1.

The Waldstadion, with room for 5,000, has also been a stop for players on their way through. Timo Bornemann spent 2023–24 there on loan from Energie Cottbus. Jörg Albertz and Hans-Georg Dreßen, both former Borussia Mönchengladbach internationals, work with the youth teams as coordinators.

Of the 15 league changes in 30 years, four were promotions into the Regionalliga West, and none of those four stuck.
