Lusitano Stadium: Stadium in Ludlow

Ownership tells the story here before geography does. Gremio Lusitano, a Portuguese cultural and sports club serving Ludlow's immigrant community, built the ground and has kept it ever since — a stadium answering to a cultural association rather than a city council or a franchise. That lineage makes it the oldest soccer-specific venue in New England.

The club's own side, long known as Ludlow Lusitano, has called the ground home since 1922, and New England Mutiny have also turned out there. Since 1998 the artificial pitch has belonged, above all, to Western Mass Pioneers, playing today as Western United Pioneers, who use it as their permanent base. For a few seasons in the mid-2000s the ground kept different company: New England Revolution brought their US Open Cup ties here between 2003 and 2005, putting MLS-level opposition in front of a crowd inside a 3,000-seat community stadium built by immigrants for their own club.
