The Richelieu Franchise T20 stands as the premier domestic Twenty20 cricket competition in Namibia, operating under the governance of Cricket Namibia. Founded in 2019, the tournament distinguishes itself through a commercial franchise model rather than traditional regional or historical club affiliations. This structure allows teams to be owned by private entities and sponsors, creating a dynamic environment where participation is determined by sponsorship agreements rather than geographic loyalty.
The competition functions as a closed league with no promotion or relegation system. Team line-ups are fluid; for example, the four franchises competing in the 2022 season were entirely replaced by new entities for the 2023 campaign. The current participants include BA Blasting Namibia, M&M Signs Strikers, King Price Kings, and MR24/7 Emergency Services. The format requires four teams to complete a round-robin group stage, followed by semi-finals and a final to determine the champion.
BA Blasting holds a significant advantage in the competition's history, securing titles in the 2019/20, 2020/21, and 2022 seasons. Later victories went to the Windhoek Jets in 2023 and the Fish River Eagles in 2024. The tournament’s primary objective extends beyond mere entertainment; it serves as a crucial developmental bridge between grassroots club cricket and the national team setup. By focusing on high-performance player development, the competition aims to strengthen the national squad through structured, competitive matches. The official title includes the sponsor name, Richelieu Franchise T20, reflecting the commercial nature of the event. All fixtures and results are managed centrally by Cricket Namibia, ensuring a consistent standard across all matches played within the framework.
