About

The ICC Under-19 Men's Cricket World Cup is an international cricket tournament organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC). It serves as a development pathway for players under the age of 19, distinct from senior ICC events. The tournament was first held in 1988 in Australia, originally titled the McDonald's Bicentennial Youth World Cup, but was not staged again until 1998, after which it became a regular biennial event.

The current format involves 16 teams divided into four groups of four. The top two teams from each group advance to the Super Six stage, where they carry forward points and net run rate against other qualified teams from their initial group. The top teams from the Super Six then proceed to semi-finals and a final. Qualification is not based on promotion or relegation from a league structure. Instead, the 10 Full Member nations (Test-playing nations) automatically qualify, along with the host nation(s). The remaining spots are filled by winners from regional qualification tournaments across Asia, Europe, Americas, Africa, and the East Asia-Pacific.

India is the most successful team with six titles (2000, 2008, 2012, 2018, 2022, and 2026), followed by Australia with four titles (1988, 2002, 2010, 2024). Australia was the defending champion entering the 2026 edition, which was co-hosted by Namibia and Zimbabwe. The tournament is distinct from other cricket competitions as it focuses exclusively on emerging talent under 19, acting as a key stepping stone to senior international cricket.
