The Ireland Inter-Provincial Twenty20 Trophy is the domestic Twenty20 cricket competition structured around provincial franchises rather than traditional county clubs. Cricket Ireland established the tournament in 2013 to serve as the premier men's domestic representative cricket structure for the island. It operates alongside the Inter-Provincial Cup and the Inter-Provincial Championship, forming the core of national domestic cricket. The competition is a closed league with no promotion or relegation, featuring teams appointed based on regional representation.
The format consists of a double round-robin league where each team plays every opponent twice. There are no knockout playoffs; the winner is determined entirely by the points table standings at the conclusion of the league stage. The current field of play includes Leinster Lightning, Northern Knights, and North-West Warriors. Munster Reds joined the competition in 2017 but were removed ahead of the 2026 season, returning the event to its original three-team configuration.
Leinster Lightning holds the record for success in the tournament, claiming the title ten times as of the 2026 season. North-West Warriors and Northern Knights have each secured victories, while Munster Reds won the competition during their tenure but finished without a trophy. The competition has undergone sponsorship changes, formerly known as the Hanley Energy Trophy and the Rario T20 Inter-Provincial Trophy, before settling on the current generic name for recent seasons.
Individual performances have set benchmarks within the league. Ross Adair achieved the highest individual score for Northern Knights in 2022, while Leinster Lightning recorded the highest team innings total against North-West Warriors in the same year. These records sit alongside the broader historical data of the competition, which has maintained consistent activity even as other formats like the first-class Championship faced hiatus. The structure remains focused on delivering high-quality Twenty20 cricket through fixed franchises.
