About

The Merwais Nika Regional 3-Day Trophy is a domestic first-class cricket competition in Afghanistan, organized by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB). The tournament sits in the second tier of the country's domestic cricket pyramid, serving as a secondary first-class platform. While the premier Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament is the primary pathway to the national team, this competition often focuses on developmental players and those not selected for the top-tier squads.

A key distinction is the match duration: the Merwais Nika Trophy is played over three days, whereas the Ahmad Shah Abdali Tournament is played over four days. There is no promotion or relegation between the two competitions; instead, player selection acts as the link, with performers in the Merwais Nika Trophy being elevated to the Ahmad Shah Abdali teams. The tournament currently features five regional teams: Amo Region, Band-e-Amir Region, Boost Region, Mis Ainak Region, and Speen Ghar Region.

The format is a single round-robin league where each team plays every other team once, resulting in four matches per team and ten total matches per season. The tournament underwent a structural change from its initial provincial format (featuring teams like Kabul and Kunduz) to the current regional format starting in 2022. Historical winners include Kabul Province (2018–19), Band-e-Amir Region (2022), Mis Ainak Region (2023), and Boost Region (2024).

The 2025 edition was won by Speen Ghar Region. The most recent completed edition, the 2026 tournament, was won by Amo Region, who finished top of the points table with 59 points. The tournament holds official first-class status from the International Cricket Council (ICC).
