The Pakistan Cup stands as the premier domestic List A cricket competition in the country. Organized by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), it operates at the top tier of the one-day format pyramid. The tournament serves as the primary pathway for ODI international selection.
The competition originated as the Pentangular One Day Cup in 2008–09, featuring departmental teams. A significant rebranding occurred in 2016–17 when the PCB introduced a draft system and shifted to regional associations. Further reforms replaced departmental teams with regional ones in 2019–20. The current format involves six regional teams: Northern, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Southern Punjab, Central Punjab, and Sindh.
The season structure typically consists of a double round-robin group stage followed by semi-finals and a final. Matches are played over 50 overs per side. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the most successful team with four titles, won in 2014–15, 2015–16, 2016–17, and 2020–21. The reigning champion is Peshawar, who won the 2023–24 edition.
While promotion and relegation exist within the broader PCB domestic structure, the Pakistan Cup is the top-tier List A event. It sits parallel to the first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and the T20 National T20 Cup. In 2023–24, the competition briefly included franchise-style teams like Peshawar and Karachi Whites alongside the regions.
