About

The President's Cup Grade-I is a List A domestic cricket competition in Pakistan organized by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). It was established for the 2023–24 season as a dedicated 50-over tournament for departmental teams. The competition sits within the PCB's three-tier departmental structure alongside Grade-II and Grade-III levels.

In the 2025–26 season, eight teams participated in the top tier. These included Ghani Glass, Khan Research Laboratories (KRL), Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Pakistan Television (PTV), Sahir Associates, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), and Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA). The format consists of a single round-robin league stage followed by a final between the top two teams.

Promotion and relegation exist between the tiers. The Grade-I winner is promoted to the first-class President's Trophy Grade-I, while the bottom two teams in Grade-I are relegated to Grade-II. The current champion (2025–26) is Khan Research Laboratories, having defeated the runner-up in the final. The previous completed season (2024–25) was won by State Bank of Pakistan, who defeated SNGPL by 7 wickets in the final held at Jinnah Stadium, Gujranwala, on October 16, 2024.

The competition is distinct from the Champions One-Day Cup, which features regional teams (Dolphins, Lions, Panthers, Stallions, Markhors) and serves as the primary List A pathway for national selection, whereas the President's Cup serves departmental employees. Historically, the premier List A competition for departments was the National One-Day Cup (founded 1999) and the Patron's Trophy, but the President's Cup Grade-I is a new iteration introduced in 2023–24. The first-class President's Trophy dates back to 1960–61 (as Ayub Trophy), but the List A departmental format under this specific name is recent.
