About

Provincial Grade 1 One-Day Tournament

The Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan Provincial Grade 1 One-Day Tournament stands as the premier domestic one-day competition for provincial teams in Afghanistan. Organised by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), this List A event sits beneath the first-class Ahmad Shah Abdali Four-Day Tournament and above the feeder Grade II structure. While the ACB formally established the current iteration for the 2021/22 season, officials have referred to the 2025 edition as the 16th, indicating a lineage that likely incorporates earlier versions or Grade II competitions previously branded as the Elite Cup Provincial Grade One Tournament.

Twelve provincial sides contest the title, including Nangarhar, Kandahar, Paktia, Kunduz, Logar, Kabul, and Khost. These teams frequently compete alongside composite entities such as the ACB XI and Chairman's XI. The schedule divides the participants into two groups of six, with each squad playing a round-robin format. The leading two teams from each group progress to the semi-finals, culminating in a final match. Every fixture lasts 50 overs per side, adhering to the standard List A duration.

Access to this top-tier provincial competition is determined through the Grade II tournament, where group winners secure promotion. Typically, four to eight sides earn the right to compete at this level annually, though specific relegation protocols remain undefined in public records. The competition distinguishes itself from the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One-Day Tournament, which utilises composite regional squads rather than individual provincial representations.

Recent champions include ACB XI, who claimed the 2025 title, following victories by Kabul B in 2024 and Kunduz Province in the inaugural 2021/22 season.
