About

The Shpageeza Cricket League stands as Afghanistan's premier domestic Twenty20 tournament. Established by the Afghanistan Cricket Board in 2013, it operates as a closed franchise system without promotion or relegation. The competition features five regional franchises: Amo Sharks, Band-e-Amir Dragons, Boost Defenders, Mis Ainak Knights, and Speen Ghar Tigers.

The season structure relies on a double round-robin group stage. Each team faces every opponent twice before the top two sides contest a single final match. All fixtures follow the T20 format. This format distinguishes the SCL from the first-class Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament and the List A National One-Day Cup, which are also run by the national body.

Amo Sharks and Speen Ghar Tigers share the record for success, each having claimed three titles. Amo Sharks hold the recent crown, having won the 2026 edition. The league gained official T20 status from the International Cricket Council in 2017, marking a significant step in its development. It remains distinct from the Afghanistan Premier League, a separate high-profile tournament launched in 2018 that featured international stars but was suspended after its first season due to governance and financial issues.

The SCL operates independently of that venture, focusing on domestic talent. Fixtures are managed via the ACB website, while the league maintains its own online presence at shpageeza.com. The competition continues to serve as the primary pathway for players aspiring to represent the national team. The five franchises rotate through the schedule annually, providing consistent opportunities for local athletes to compete at the highest domestic level.
