About

The Vitality Blast Men is the premier domestic Twenty20 cricket competition in England and Wales. Organized by the England and Wales Cricket Board, the tournament sits at the top tier of domestic T20 cricket, featuring all 18 first-class county clubs as permanent members. Unlike the County Championship or the One-Day Cup, the Blast is a short-format tournament designed for high attendance and commercial success.

The competition was established in 2003 as the Twenty20 Cup. It is characterized by its "Finals Day" at Edgbaston, which serves as the culmination of the season. The 2026 season employs a format reverted to three regional groups of six teams: North, Central, and South. Each team plays 12 matches within their group. The top two teams from each group, plus the two best third-placed teams, qualify for the quarter-finals.

There is no promotion or relegation; membership is fixed. Historical records show that Leicestershire Foxes and Hampshire share the highest number of titles, with three wins each. Gloucestershire are the current title holders, winning in 2024. Other notable winners include Somerset, Nottinghamshire, and Lancashire.

The tournament differs from its domestic counterparts by its brevity, typically lasting approximately three hours per match. Matches are often scheduled for night-time, contributing to a festive atmosphere that contrasts with the traditional, multi-day nature of the County Championship. The competition has undergone several format changes since its inception, moving from varying group structures to the current regional setup. It has also had several title sponsors, including Friends Provident, Friends Life, and NatWest, before adopting the Vitality Blast name in 2018.
