Veszprém kept their Champions League campaign spotless with a 35:29 win over Fuchse Berlin on Wednesday evening in Berlin. The Hungarian side moved to the top of the table with four points from two games, while the hosts remained on two after a win and a draw.

We had backed Fuchse at home with 59 per cent confidence, but the match went the other way entirely. Veszprém simply had too much about them — they were sharper in transition and made the Germans pay for every hesitation.

The visitors have won all five of their last five matches without exception. Their recent scores read like a checklist: 47:27, 36:28, 40:21, 35:25, 32:25. Not a single game where they lost their composure.

Fuchse Berlin showed more promise in their previous results — a 44:33 demolition of Partizan, a draw with Stuttgart — but the Magdeburg loss and now this defeat suggest they are not yet ready for the top tier.

The gap at the top of the table is already two points. Veszprém have not dropped a point in two games. Berlin have one draw to show for theirs and will need to tighten things up if they want to stay in contention.
