Dragunas Klaipeda beat Granitas-Karys 40-30 in the Lithuanian Handball League on Tuesday evening. The visitors moved clear at the top of the table with a comfortable win at home soil. By then the league was two rounds in and already telling a story.

Dragunas are sitting first with four points from two wins, while Granitas-Karys remain seventh on zero points after two draws. The gap is already opening up at the business end of the table. To be fair, early form means little, but four points versus none says what you need to know.

Granitas-Karys have been grinding out results — a narrow loss to Omónia, another close one against HK Sveiasa, and a couple of draws in the spring. They came into this match expecting to nick something from a tough away trip. And here's the thing, they didn't get it.

We had called for the visitors to win beforehand, 77 per cent confidence. The margin proved us right, though perhaps not in the way anyone expected. Dragunas were never really in danger of losing this one.

Two wins from two puts Dragunas in control of their own destiny. Granitas-Karys will need to find a way to turn those draws into points if they want to stay in touching distance. The league is young, but the shape is already forming.
