The Antigua and Barbuda Falcons beat the Guyana Amazon Warriors 182-117 in the Caribbean Premier League on Monday evening. The result keeps the visitors top of the table while the hosts remain in second place.
By then the Falcons had already played two more games than the Warriors, giving them a one-point advantage at 13 to 12. The hosts have suffered just one defeat from seven matches, while the away side has three losses across nine games.
Both sides have been involved in plenty of scoring this season. The Warriors lost their previous meeting with the Falcons on 23 August by 121-116, and have since seen games produce 132-128, 160-159 and 185-172. The visitors have not been far behind, with 183-175, 168-165 and 191-187 among their recent affairs.
And here's the thing about a margin this size — 65 points is not something you recover from in a league format. The Falcons have now proven they can win away from home against the same opposition that finished second last time round.
To be fair, the Warriors have scored freely in their last four matches, averaging over 150 points per game. But they have also conceded in those same fixtures, and on this evening it was the visitors who held their nerve.
The gap between first and second is now one point, though the Falcons have played more games. If the Warriors were to win all their remaining fixtures, they would still need three more victories to overtake their rivals on points alone.
