Jammu & Kashmir — Madhya Pradesh: 208:445, Ranji Trophy

Madhya Pradesh posted 445 runs against Jammu and Kashmir's 208 to claim a comfortable victory in the opening fixture of the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy on October 11th. The hosts have played three matches already this season, including a heavy defeat to Rest of India earlier this month, while the visitors arrived with a mixed run of results from January.

By then the visitors had already shown they could compete - they'd edged Karnataka by a single run and lost to Jharkhand by one run in back-to-back games. That narrow margin against Jharkhand suggested they weren't far off, but this match told a different story entirely.

The final scoreline of 208 to 445 doesn't lie, though cricket reports rarely dwell on raw numbers without context. The visitors had the stronger batting lineup going into the tournament, having scored 228 and 287 in their last two January fixtures before losing by single runs on both occasions.

Neither team has moved from the bottom of the table - both sit on zero points after their first games of the season. The result extends Madhya Pradesh's momentum from those tight January encounters, while Jammu and Kashmir's recent form included that 389-556 defeat to Rest of India.
