County Championship: rain disrupts opening day's play
Weather curtailed most County Championship fixtures, but Jimmy Anderson impressed with 2-19 for Middlesex while several other counties battled the elements.
Rain and low cloud disrupted the first day of the County Championship round at several grounds. Durham were 112-3 at Wantage Road, Nottinghamshire 9-0 at Trent Bridge, and Warwickshire 141-1 at Southampton, where Yates and Mousley were both going well before the weather closed in.
At Chelmsford, Charlie Tear fell for 39, nibbling at one from Jamie Porter and giving Simon Harmer a catch. Sussex stood at 110-4.
Middlesex chose to bat at Merchant Taylor's School and slipped to 28-2 on a parched outfield. Jimmy Anderson took advantage, finishing with figures of 2-19 that included Max Holden, bowled between pad and bat.
Glamorgan lost ground against Somerset. Ingram went for 13 to leave them 116-4, and Ben Kellaway, again into the 40s, saw Dickson follow him for 125-6, held at slip by Craig Overton off Lewis Gregory.
Yorkshire recovered from 32-3 at The Oval, with Revis playing fluently. Kent, meanwhile, lost Northeast for 43 and Muyeye for 37 within three runs of each other against Worcestershire, leaving Bell-Drummond and Benjamin to rebuild the innings at 111-4.
Play carried on only at Merchant Taylor's School and at Bristol as rain took hold elsewhere. Josh Bohannon shelled a chance for Lancashire before Anderson returned to the attack. At the County Ground, bottom-of-the-table Gloucestershire hosted Derbyshire, where Luke Procter produced a delivery good enough to remove both stumps.
