Fisher and Crocombe shine as 23 wickets fall at the Oval

Yorkshire's Matt Fisher took six for 25 and Essex's Henry Crocombe claimed a hat-trick as bowlers dominated day two of the county cricket season.

Twenty-three wickets fell at the Oval on the second day of Surrey's match with Yorkshire, the first time since 1950 that a single day of first-class cricket there has contained elements of all four innings.

Surrey were bowled out for 83 in their first innings. Yorkshire's reply lasted barely longer: dismissed for 82 in their second innings, with Matt Fisher taking a career-best six for 25. Fisher was left out of England's squad for the third Test. Surrey, chasing 185 to win, closed unbeaten on 27 without loss.

At Chelmsford, Henry Crocombe took his second hat-trick in two games as Essex lost seven wickets for six runs in 26 balls. He finished with five wickets, removing Simon Harmer, Zaman Akhter and Shane Snater among them. Crocombe joins Surrey at the end of the season. Sussex stumbled to 90 for four in their second innings but lead by 188. Sam Cook was withdrawn from the game midway through by England.

Elsewhere, Derbyshire's Derby-born debutant Mohammed Bin Naeem made 71 as his side reached 162 for two at stumps, a reply built on James Bracey's 113 for Gloucestershire earlier in the day at Bristol.

Next week Sussex mark John Wisden's 200th birthday at Hove during the match against Surrey. Spectators are being encouraged to wear yellow, with early arrivals given a special umbrella and a look at Wisden's patented "Catapulta" bowling machine.
