Somerset go top after routing Leicestershire

Somerset are back on top of Division One after bowling out Leicestershire for 145 to win by 377 runs at Grace Road, with the title they have long chased still in reach.

Somerset had set the hosts 523 after waiting for New Zealand signing Henry Nicholls to reach his first Championship century. Craig Overton took four for 33 and Jack Leach three for 30 as Leicestershire's batting fell apart. The biggest cheer of the day at Grace Road came when a runaway husky ran onto the outfield.

Trent Bridge

Nottinghamshire, the defending champions, were bowled out for 104 by Hampshire. Seventeen-year-old Manny Lumsden took five for 36, including the wicket of top scorer Joe Clarke for 37.

Hampshire, needing 178, found batting no easier. Olly Stone took three for 15 and Dillon Pennington three for 18, and Hampshire had slipped to 61 for six when bad light stopped play.

Headingley

Essex were undone by Kuldeep Yadav, who took six for 50 to leave Yorkshire close to securing their Division One place for next season. Essex, following on, slipped to 26 for five before Paul Walter's 48 and George Bell's 28 took them past 100. Kuldeep finished with career-best match figures of 10 for 120. Sam Cook, who arrived late and unwanted at the Test, did not bowl a ball.

Elsewhere

Northamptonshire took 20 points from a six-wicket win over Worcestershire, moving above promotion rivals Kent. Against Derbyshire, though, they face a harder task: half-centuries from Brooke Guest, Luis Reece and the in-form Martin Andersson have left Derbyshire needing to set Northamptonshire 434 to win.
