Harry Brook: Brydon Carse needs time away from England

Harry Brook, England's ODI and T20 captain, says Brydon Carse "needs time away from the international scene". Brook made the comments to the BBC after Derbyshire Police closed its assault investigation into the fast bowler on Friday. Carse, 31, will face no charges.

The case stems from a night out in Derby with Durham team-mates last month. Officers handcuffed Carse, and it later emerged he had been arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly before being "de-arrested". The assault inquiry followed. Carse has kept playing for Durham, but he was left out of England's squad for the third Test against Pakistan earlier this month, as reported at the time, and is not in the white-ball squad for the current series against Sri Lanka.

Asked whether he had spoken to Carse, Brook said: "I'm very good mates with Carsey. I've spoken a lot with him. Those conversations are private. I think he just needs time away from the international scene. He's working on a few things behind the scenes and hopefully he'll be ready at some point in the future."

The independent Cricket Regulator is still looking into the incident. The England and Wales Cricket Board has confirmed that Carse is available for selection. White-ball head coach Brendon McCullum said last week that Carse should "get his house in order" before an England return.

Carse was England's leading wicket-taker in the 4-1 Ashes defeat last winter. He has not played for England in any format since, and injury kept him out of the first half of the English summer.
