About the player
Daniel Sumalla is a product of Inter Miami CF's own academy, and his path to the first team has run entirely through the club rather than via a transfer. Born in Miami, he moved to Catalonia as a young child and returned to the United States in 2018, later joining Miami Rush Kendall SC before entering the Inter Miami academy setup with the U-17 side in 2024. He advanced quickly, stepping up to the U-19 squad in 2025.
That same year brought his move into professional football when he joined Inter Miami CF II in MLS Next Pro, making his debut against Philadelphia Union II in May 2025. He went on to play every one of the reserve side's 17 matches that season.
Since then he has been named among the substitutes for a number of Inter Miami's 2026 league fixtures, including matches against Chicago Fire, Montreal, Colorado Rapids, Real Salt Lake and Orlando City SC, though a competitive senior debut has yet to come.
At 188cm and right-footed, Sumalla's progress so far has been measured in reserve-team minutes and matchday squad selections rather than senior appearances.
