Diadie Samassékou

Diadié Samassékou learned the game through the Jean-Marc Guillou academy in Bamako before starting his senior career at Real Bamako. His move to Europe in 2015 came as a free transfer to FC Liefering, Red Bull Salzburg's feeder side. Promoted to Salzburg's first team in 2017, he made over 130 appearances and won three Austrian Bundesliga titles and two Austrian Cups, while also reaching the UEFA Europa League semi-finals in 2017–18. That season and the next, he was named to the Bundesliga Team of the Year, and he picked up a Europa League Squad of the Season award as well. In 2017 he was named Best Eagle of the Year, recognising Mali's top sportsman playing abroad.

That form earned him a move to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in August 2019 for a club-record fee of around €14 million. His time in the Bundesliga was interrupted by two loan spells, at Olympiacos in Greece and, briefly, at Cádiz in Spain, though neither produced the individual recognition of his Salzburg years. When his Hoffenheim contract expired, he signed with Houston Dynamo as a free agent in August 2025.

For Mali, Samassékou made his senior debut in a friendly win over China in 2014 and has since built up 41 caps, scoring once, against Tunisia at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. He has appeared at four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, and at youth level he took bronze with Mali at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
