Gabriel Agustín Sotomayor Cardozo

Before he was on The Strongest's books, Gabriel Sotomayor was picking up balls at Petrolero de Yacuiba, working as a ball boy for the club in his hometown between 2016 and 2017. A strong showing in a reserve tournament match got him into The Strongest's academy that same year, and by January 2019 manager Pablo Escobar had pushed him into the first team. He made his senior debut on 19 January that year, in a 2–1 win over Aurora, and has renewed his contract with the club several times since, most recently in January 2024.

In January 2025 he left on a free loan to Maltese side Floriana, scoring on his debut in a 4–1 win against Victoria Hotspurs on 6 February. He went on to make 13 appearances for the club, with two goals and an assist, before the loan was not renewed and he returned to The Strongest on 11 June 2025.

Sotomayor's international career began with a call-up in May 2024 for a friendly against Mexico, though he did not play. His senior debut for Bolivia came on 14 November 2024, when he came on as a half-time substitute against Ecuador in a World Cup qualifier that Bolivia lost 4–0. He was later named in the squad for matches against Peru and Uruguay in March 2025.
