Hugo Jean-Marc Cuypers

Hugo Cuypers grew up in the Standard Liège academy and made his one senior appearance for the club before being sent out on loan to RFC Seraing. He was signed by Olympiacos in 2019.

After a spell at KV Mechelen, he joined KAA Gent in 2022 for a fee of around €4.6 million, and the following season he finished as top scorer in the Belgian First Division A with 27 goals, a tally that also won him the Jean-Claude Bouvy Trophy as the league's best Belgian player.

That form took him to Chicago Fire in February 2024 for a club-record fee of $12 million, plus up to $2 million in add-ons. In Major League Soccer he was named to the MLS All-Star First XI in June 2026, though he was withdrawn from the squad before the game itself. The following month he moved on again, joining CF Monterrey for $7.5 million plus add-ons on a three-year deal.

At international level, Cuypers has represented Belgium only at Under-19 level, where he scored during qualifying for the 2016 European Under-19 Championship. His major honours remain a Belgian Cup won with Standard Liège and the Greek league title with Olympiacos.
