Luciano Barros

Luciano Barros joined Independiente's youth ranks in 2017 after a trial against Los Andes, and eight years on, in early 2026, he made his senior bow in a pre-season friendly against Alianza Lima, which the club won 2-1. Before that debut he had already made his mark with the reserves, appearing in the Torneo Apertura de Reserva, where he scored three goals in eleven matches. He was also included among the substitutes for Liga Profesional and Copa Argentina fixtures during that period.

Independiente rewarded that progress by extending his contract to December 2029, tying the young defender to the club for the long term. In August 2026, however, the club sent him out on loan to Uruguayan side Plaza Colonia to gain regular first-team minutes, a move that also freed up an international roster spot for Ezequiel Ávila. The loan, presented on 27 August 2026, runs without a fee and without a purchase option, though Independiente kept a repurchase clause valid until December 2026.

Barros first drew wider attention as a teenager, when he was called up to train with Argentina's Under-15 side in 2019, becoming the first player born in 2005 to receive that invitation. A right-footed defender by trade, he has yet to add senior titles or individual honours to his record, and at Plaza Colonia he is still waiting for his first competitive appearance in Uruguayan football.
