Matias Lugo

Matías Lugo came through the youth academy at Argentinos Juniors and made his professional debut for the club in 2022 under coach Gabriel Milito. Rather than establishing himself immediately in the first team, he spent the following seasons out on loan, gathering minutes elsewhere while his contract with Argentinos Juniors remained in place. The most formative of those spells came at Estudiantes de Caseros between 2023 and 2024, where he made more than 60 appearances and was handed the captain's armband.

In December 2024 Lugo moved on loan to O'Higgins in Chile for the 2025 season. He featured in more than twenty matches there and scored against Deportes Limache, contributing to a campaign that ended with the club finishing third in the league and qualifying for the Copa Libertadores 2026. It was the clearest measure yet of his development through loan spells rather than a settled run in one first team.

In February 2026, Lugo joined Barcelona SC on loan from Argentinos Juniors, with an option to buy attached to the move. The switch to Ecuadorian football marks a new step after a career built almost entirely away from his parent club, shuttling between Argentina and Chile before this loan abroad. At 170 cm and right-footed, he operates in central midfield.
