About the player
Yuriel Celi captained Peru's Under-17 side at the 2019 Sudamericano Sub-17, scoring three goals and helping the team reach the hexagonal final stage. A left-footed midfielder, he was later named Best Under-21 Player of the Year in the Liga 1 in 2020.
A free transfer took him to Carlos A. Mannucci in January 2022, and a year later he moved to English club Hull City for an undisclosed fee. He was loaned back to Peru, joining Universitario de Deportes for the 2023 season, a spell in which he won the Torneo Clausura. In February 2025, Celi returned to Universitario on a permanent basis.
His second stint at the club coincided with a period of dominance in Peruvian football. Universitario won both the Torneo Apertura and Torneo Clausura in 2024, making Celi a bicampeón. Despite that success, he was loaned out again in January 2025, this time to Deportivo Garcilaso, and by March 2026 had moved on loan once more, to Sport Boys, for the remainder of the season. An administrative error meant his registration for the Apertura tournament was rejected, leaving him eligible only for the Clausura.
At international level, Celi earned his first cap for Peru on 19 November 2022, in a match against Bolivia.
