AGF

In the spring of 1960, a team from Aarhus walked onto court in a European Cup final that no Danish handball side had reached before. AGF lost it, but the run there capped a decade in which the men's team took four Danish championships, in 1957, 1959, 1961 and 1965, and followed them with the Danish Cup in 1967.

That men's team eventually left AGF's own name behind. From 2001 it played on as Århus GF, later Århus Håndbold, built through a merger with Brabrand IF, VRI and Århus KFUM/Hasle, and it reached a Danish championship final in 2004–05 before taking bronze in 2007–08. The club went bankrupt in April 2021 and merged with Skanderborg Håndbold to form Skanderborg-AGF Håndbold. AGF returned to the men's game in June 2023, buying a 50 per cent stake in the club, renamed Skanderborg AGF Håndbold, which now splits its home fixtures between Skanderborg and Aarhus and plays in the Herreligaen. In the 2025–26 season it reached the Danish Cup final and went all the way to the championship final before losing to Aalborg Håndbold.

Across town, Aarhus Håndbold remains the club AGF measures itself against, a rivalry sharpened by a legal fight over the "Aarhus Håndbold" name and by merger talks that collapsed in late 2025. The two clubs' women's teams meet in the 1. Division, where AGF's own women play home matches at Ceres Park, Hal 1, in front of 1,500 seats.

They still wear the white and navy blue of "De Hvide", the same colours the handball department chose when AGF first fielded a team in 1935.
