A year later they went further still, when Mathias Joggi scored in overtime of Game 6 against EHC Kloten to seal the Swiss League title. It was the club's third championship at that level, after 1992 and 2016, and this time promotion actually followed.

Porrentruy is a small town in the Jura to build a National League club around, and Ajoie has kept its place there partly by importing experience when the table turned against it. In 2004–05, the club signed NHL players Pierre Dagenais and Pascal Dupuis and stayed up. Locally, though, the club's identity rests more on players who never left: Marcel Aubry, Steven Barras and Jordane Hauert all have their numbers retired, and James Desmarais and Philip-Michaël Devos are remembered.

The team, nicknamed Les Ajoulots after the region, plays its rivalry with HC Bienne under a nickname of its own — the "derby des mal classés," the derby of the poorly ranked. Since 2021, Ajoie has stayed in the National League, no longer the side fighting to climb back into it.
