Amenabar

Amenabar Zarautz spent the 2024–25 season in División de Honor Plata and finished 13th, a result that sent the club back down to Primera División Nacional. Getting back to the second tier, where the team had also arrived in 2013, is the immediate task for whatever comes next.

The handball section grew out of Club Deportivo Zarautz, known these days as Zarautz Kirol Elkartea, whose roots in the Basque town go back to 1944; handball itself did not start there until 1965. The team has never reached Liga Asobal, though it came close in 2013–14, when it fell in the promotion play-off semi-finals to BM Alcobendas.

National titles have stayed out of reach, but the Euskal Kopa has become something the club returns to almost as a habit, usually only to lose the final to Bidasoa Irun — in 2019, 2025 and again in 2026. That fixture against Bidasoa carries its own name in Gipuzkoa, the Derbi Guipuzcoano, and settling it has proven harder than winning the cup itself.

Locally the team plays under the nickname Los Zarauztarras, in black and white, at the Aritzbatalde municipal sports hall.

The name most attached to the club's recent identity is Aitor Urbitarte, known as "Txangurro", whose coaching work earned him the RFEBM's Silver Medal for Sports Merit in 2018. On the court, Xabat Olaizola has been the long-serving pivot.
