The record books at UMCS list the founding of the university club as 1944, the year the Marie Curie-Skłodowska University itself came into being by decree. Handball turned up on the AZS Lublin books after the war, in the late 1940s and early 1950s.

What the team is now owes more to an arrangement struck in August 2013 than to anything from those early decades: MKS AZS UMCS Lublin works alongside MKS Lublin. The academic team itself sits in the second-tier I Liga Kobiet, a level where the "Akademiczki" — the students — have built what standing they have.

Green and white are the club's colours, and the players go by "Lublinianki" as often as by the student nickname. Matches are shared between the Globus arena, which holds 3,909, and the smaller Hala MOSiR, seating 900.
