Bantu

The Leshoboro Seeiso Sports Complex holds 7,000 and sits in Mafeteng, and Bantu FC has never needed anywhere else: the club was born in this district and has stayed put since. It began in 1927, set up by District Commissioner Mr Button after he consulted the four Principal Chiefs of Mafeteng, and started out as Flying Sweeps before the name changed to Bantu, chosen to draw the district's tribes together, the Matebele among the first settlers foremost. The nickname A Mats'o Matebele stuck, and the supporters go by Makaota. Black and gold, the colours the club still wears, belong to Mafeteng itself.

There is no rival club in the town to argue with. That same 1963 season also brought the Stuart Cup. Further back still, in 1932, the club won the Basutoland Football Cup, the tournament the Independence Cup replaced. The meetings with Lioli FC in Independence Cup finals, in 2013 and 2015 among them, have supplied the sharpest edge to the club's history, with Matlama FC and Linare FC as the other names that come up. Continental football has taken Bantu into the CAF Champions League four times and once each into the Confederation Cup and the old Cup Winners' Cup.

The national team, the Crocodiles, has drawn regularly from the Mafeteng side, goalkeeper Thabiso Lichaba serving as vice-captain in the squad that worked through the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Leshoboro Seeiso Sports Complex keeps hosting the black and gold, in the town that has never known it any other way.
