Boras

In the spring of 2012, Borås Hockey finished second in the qualification round that decided who would survive in HockeyAllsvenskan. The club failed to meet the league's elite licence requirements, and the relegation that followed was administrative rather than sporting.

The club traces back to the ice hockey section of Norrby IF, active in Borås since 1947, before it broke away and was formally established in 1969. For decades it played and was known as Borås HC, and it was under that name that it won Division 1 in 2007, earning its one promotion to HockeyAllsvenskan. In 2011 the club renamed itself Borås Hockey, dropping the HC to avoid being confused with the abbreviation BH.

Borås Ishall, on Armbågavägen in the centre of town, has hosted the club's home games since 1972. Matches against Mariestad BoIS and Ulricehamns IF have a derby edge, without either fixture having settled on a name of its own.

The number 13 hangs retired at the rink for Nikolaj Drozdetskij, a Soviet international who wore it for the club. More recently, Borås has been a stop on the way up for players who went on to the NHL, John Klingberg and Marcus Sörensen among them, though their careers at the top level were built elsewhere.

The five seasons in HockeyAllsvenskan between 2007 and 2012 remain the club's only spell at that level, and the promotion that would take it back there has not come since.
