The Sportzentrum Donaufeld sits in Vienna's 21st district.

The club did not start life in Vienna, or under this name. It was founded in 1985 in Klosterneuburg as the Klosterneuburg Mercenaries, moved to Korneuburg in 2008, and only settled at Donaufeld in 2012, four years after taking the Danube Dragons name in 2000. One of the Mercenaries' 1999 roster, Geoff Stults, left American football for acting rather than for another club.

Across the city, the Vienna Vikings wait every season for the Wiener Derby, and little in Austrian football carries the same weight as that fixture. In between, in 2024, the Dragons stepped outside Austria altogether and beat the Calanda Broncos to the Central European Football League Bowl.

Not every trip to the final has ended in green ribbons — the club came away runners-up in 1990, 1997, and again in 2026. But four Austrian Bowls now sit alongside that continental title.
