Schiedam let them back within weeks, but only on condition that the initials stand for something new: Door Wilskracht Sterk, strong through willpower. The name stuck when the club took official form on 25 June that year, and it has carried it ever since.

DWS play in blue-and-white stripes out of Sporthal Groenoord, having moved on from the old Sporthal Margriet. That scale suits a fixture the city still marks on its calendar: the derby against Ventura Schiedam, known locally as the bekerderby van Schiedam.

League position has swung sharply for DWS in recent years. The women's side climbed into the Hoofdklasse for the 2020/2021 season after winning the second-class field competition in 2018. The men's team has followed a similar arc: they won the Eerste Divisie in 2025 and earned a return to the Next Handball League Men for 2025/2026. Jordan Beukman and Loeka Hendriks both came back to Schiedam for that campaign after spells elsewhere, part of a pattern at DWS where players leave for clubs like Quintus and eventually find their way home.
