Northern Nigerian football has one hierarchy question, and El-Kanemi Warriors settle it against Kano Pillars.
The club itself owes its existence to a soldier rather than a supporters' group: Colonel Abdulmumini Aminu, then Military Administrator of Borno State, set it up in 1986.
Domestically, the top flight has eluded them — no NPFL title in four decades. The Federation Cup is where they have made their mark instead, won in 1991 and 1992, then again in 2024 and 2026. Nasiru Salihu was named the competition's most valuable player in the 2024 run. The 1991 season also brought the National Second Division title, repeated in 2000.
Garba Lawal passed through the club before Olympic gold in 1996 and two World Cups; Abdul Aminu played in the 1990 World Cup after coming through the same side.
It still returns, each Federation Cup campaign, to the same rivalry Aminu's side was built to contest.
