Fribourg Olympic

The club itself is a merger, dating to 27 April 1961, when Fribourg Basket and Olympic Basket joined into one. Basketball in the city had run on two separate tracks before that; afterwards it ran on one, and that one has stayed near the top of the domestic game for six decades.

Fribourg Olympic has moved through the EuroLeague in its old FIBA form, the ULEB Cup, the EuroChallenge and the Basketball Champions League without breaking through in any of them — the closest was the 2018–19 Champions League, when three qualifying rounds carried them into the regular season, and a Quarter-Final run in the FIBA Europe Cup in 2024–25.

Union Neuchâtel supplies the fixture with the edge: their playoff meetings carry the weight of a derby even without a name attached to it, while Spinelli Massagno has kept turning up across the table from them in recent finals.

Games normally belong to the Salle Saint-Léonard, holding 2,850, but the 2025–2026 playoffs send the club back to the Salle Sainte-Croix, their home through the 1980s and into 2010 — the Saint-Léonard hall has been handed over as a media centre for the 2026 IIHF World Championship.
