Galata

Suat Karaosman started the club in 1932 not as Galata SK but as Çeşme Meydanı Gençler Birliği. The registration under Galata SK came two years later, in 1934, and even that did not settle the matter: the name changed again in 1936, and in 1940 a merger with Bozkurt Kulübü produced Galata Gençlik Kulübü before the club finally settled on the name it carries now.

None of that history has anything to do with Galatasaray, despite the shared district and the easy confusion the name invites. Galata SK has built its own record instead: the İstanbul Profesyonel 2. Ligi in 1956–57, and the İstanbul Mahallî Ligi nine years later. No national title has followed, and none is likely to be mistaken for one.

The club's story since has been one of levels rather than trophies — spells in the 2. Lig through the late 1960s and again in the 1980s. Red and black have stayed the colours throughout, and the club now plays out its current 3. Lig campaign at the İBB Beyoğlu Stadı. It is that founding push, more than any result since, that people still bring up when Galata SK's name comes up.
