HK Orsha

The Physical and Health Complex in the agro-town of Babichichi holds no more than 250 people in its seats, a modest hall rebuilt in 2021. When Handball Club MAZ-Orsha needed somewhere to play, there was little choice beyond it.

The club itself dates only to August 2024, registered on the 11th of that month and opened in October under the initiative of Vladimir Konoplyov, chairman of the Belarusian Handball Federation, with the regional authorities and the Minsk Automobile Plant standing behind it as title sponsor — the source of the MAZ in its name. An earlier club under a similar name had existed in Orsha between 2006 and 2009, but it was a separate body, long since wound up; what plays now was built from nothing rather than revived.

The team spent its first season, 2024/2025, in Division 2 and finished twelfth, then moved up to Division 1 for 2025/2026. Alexei Khadkevich, once capped for the national team, took charge as head coach. No trophy sits in the club's short history yet, and with no other men's side from the Vitebsk Region in the league, it has yet to acquire a rival to measure itself against.

For now the club is followed mostly through a Telegram channel rather than a website of its own, and its results still come back, more often than not, to that small blue-and-white hall in Babichichi.
