Football at Washington began outside any formal structure, with students in Seattle organizing informal games in 1889.
The program built its reputation as a stop on the way to Sundays rather than a stage in itself. The 1991 team took that reputation to its peak, finishing the season ranked No. 1 in the Coaches' Poll for a share of the national title, three decades after the 1960 side had been recognized as national champion following a Rose Bowl win.
Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium has stayed the program's home through all of it, including the years it lent the ground to the Seattle Seahawks while the NFL club waited on a stadium of its own.
