«Huskies»
In 1908 the University of Washington handed its football programme to Gil Dobie, and for nine seasons the team did not lose a game — a 58–0–3 record that no coach anywhere has matched since.
Husky Stadium has held 70,083 since its last major rebuild in 2012.
Two national titles are recognised: 1960, awarded by the Helms Athletic Foundation after a Rose Bowl win over Minnesota, and 1991, when an undefeated Don James team beat Michigan in the same stadium and took the Coaches' Poll crown. James, known on campus as "the Dawgfather," is the coach most associated with that era; three decades earlier it had been Dobie who set the standard nobody else reached. Of the fourteen conference titles won in the Pac-12 era, the most recent, in 2023, came the year before Washington left the conference altogether for the Big Ten.
The programme calls itself Quarterback U, a claim built on producing NFL passers like Warren Moon, but a national championship earned outright rather than shared with a rival poll — the kind Alabama or Ohio State now collect as a matter of course — is not among the eighteen banners hanging over the Cascade Clash and the Apple Cup.
