Jihlava sits in the Vysočina region, and for decades the town's identity on the ice ran through the army — Dukla was the club of the Czechoslovak People's Army, assembled in 1956 from players of disbanded military teams and moved a year later from Olomouc to Jihlava, where it took the name it still carries. That origin gave the club its nickname, "Vojáci" — the Soldiers.
Between 1967 and 1991 Dukla won the Czechoslovak Extraliga twelve times. Dominik Hašek came through the club during that era.
Since then the club's story has been one of getting back: six titles in the second-tier 1. Czech Hockey League, each one a promotion push, most recently in 2025 and 2026. Home games are played at the Horácká aréna, built after the old Horácký zimní stadion was pulled down in 2023. Against Třebíč, twenty kilometres down the road, Dukla plays the Vysočina Derby.
The club plays in crimson and gold, and its record still shows twelve Czechoslovak championships.
