Lebanon supplies the more familiar fixture, renewed year after year at the West Asian Championship and the Asian Games, while Saudi Arabia has grown into a rival of its own in recent World Cup qualifying.

The run to the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship final remains the high point. Jordan lost that final to China by a single point, 69-70, with Tab Baldwin on the bench. Two years earlier, under Mário Palma, they had taken bronze at the same tournament before going on to the 2010 World Cup, where they finished 23rd. A second silver came much later, at the 2022 Asian Games, played in 2023 in Hangzhou after the pandemic delay, where the Philippines beat them in the final.

Jordan has also reached three World Cups since 2010, missing only the 2014 edition.

The team plays in white at home and black away, taken straight from the national flag, and carries the nickname the Falcons into Prince Faisal Hall in Amman, a 2,000-seat venue inside the King Abdullah II Sports City complex. Behind the team stands the Jordan Basketball Federation, formed in 1957 and admitted to FIBA that same year, with no separate date marking the national side itself — the federation and the team have always been one and the same story.
