Three Mestis championships arrived inside four seasons — 2018–19, 2020–21 and 2021–22 — but Ketterä had to climb through the third tier first. The club won the Suomi-sarja in 2008–09 and again in 2016–17. Two runner-up finishes followed, in 2022–23 and 2023–24.

The Suomen Cup went much the same way, on a smaller scale: three wins in four years, 2018, 2019 and 2021.

Registered on 25 September 1957, the club competes in yellow and black. Its ground, Imatran jäähalli, carries the commercial name OmaSp Areena and holds 1,200. The academy has produced players who went on to the NHL and beyond — Petteri Nokelainen, a World Champion, and goaltender Jussi Markkanen among them — while the Mestis years brought imports such as Kevin Lankinen through Imatra.

The fixture that matters most is against SaiPa in nearby Lappeenranta, known as the Etelä-Karjalan derby. The nickname Keltamustat, the yellow-blacks, is attached to SaiPa rather than to Ketterä, even though it is Ketterä who actually wears those colours.
