The clubhouse that stands there today is not the original: the first pavilion, opened by Governor Sir Frederick Lugard in 1908, gave way to a modernised building put up in 1958, and a swimming pool complex followed in 1965.

Kowloon Cricket Club formed on 4 October 1904, when a group of Kowloon residents decided the district needed a cricket club of its own.

Cricket remains the club's identity, and its team still wears white, but KCC also fields sides in football, hockey, tennis, squash and lawn bowls. The football section came much later, in 1994, and plays on in Hong Kong's amateur leagues in yellow shirts and black shorts. On the cricket side, KCC has taken the Hong Kong Premier League T20 Tournament in three of the last five seasons, 2020/21, 2022/23 and 2024/25, and added the one-day title in 2021/22. Their fiercest fixture is the Hancock Memorial Shield against the Hong Kong Cricket Club.
