Kyndil Fai

Kyndil took the championship almost every year between 1958 and 1974, and again in 2004, 2006 and 2007. The women's side built something separate and later, winning its first league in 1964 and its most recent in 2024, with a Faroese Cup added six times along the way, the last in the same 2024 season.

Kyndil grew out of Tórshavn in 1956, taking its name from the Faroese word for candle, though nobody in the town actually calls the players that — they are just Kyndil. The colours settled early: green and white shirts, black shorts.

Neistin sits across the same hall, Gundadalshøllin, and whatever else happens in a Faroese handball season, the games between the two clubs carry the weight of the Tórshavn derby.

Kaj Leo Johannesen is the name people reach for first, and not only for the 163 matches and 625 goals he put up for Kyndil before politics took him — he went on to serve as Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands, which is not a sentence handball clubs get to write about their own players often.
