Basketball in Poděbrady goes back to 1947, when Jiskra Poděbrady and Slavia VŠ Poděbrady first put teams on court; the two merged in 1973 into TJ Sklo Bohemia Poděbrady, and in 2008 the arrival of BK Sadská, renamed Karma Basket Poděbrady, briefly lifted the town into the top-flight NBL for two seasons before the licence was lost. Basketbal Polabí, registered in 2019, picked up that line as a joint project between ERA Basketball Nymburk and the local Poděbrady structures.

The team now plays in the 1. Liga, the second tier, in white and blue. Home games are held at the Městská sportovní hala, a hall that seats 350.

Neither Basketbal Polabí nor its predecessors have taken a national title, but the region has had its moments: BK Sadská won the 2. Liga playoff in 2004/05 to earn promotion to the NBL, and Poděbrady's women's side won the 2. Liga – sk. B in 2021/22.
