BK Svitavy

Svitavy sits in the Pardubice Region, a town whose basketball side has spent longer explaining itself than winning things. The game there goes back to 1951, when a team first turned out under the sports society banner TJ Svitavy, but the club as it now exists took shape half a century later, in 2001, when the Na Střelnici hall was finished and a separate entity called Basketbal Svitavy was registered to play in it. Ten years on, in 2011, the club changed its name to Tuři, borrowing the bull's head from the town's coat of arms.

Tuři reached the top-flight National Basketball League for the 2010–11 season and stayed there for eleven years, a run that ended in relegation after 2020–21 caused by money running out rather than results on the court. What followed was not a slow rebuild: in the second-tier 1. Liga, Svitavy won the 2024 title, beating Slavoj Litoměřice in the final to go straight back up. It is the only trophy on the club's list, and it came at the level meant to be stepping-stone rather than destination.

The hall itself holds under a thousand — 925 seats by the Czech federation's count — which keeps home games close and loud rather than grand. Petr Andres came up through the club's own academy and became one of the fixtures of its NBL years.

The derby that matters is against BK JIP Pardubice, the bigger club a short drive away in the same region, and it is that fixture, not any of the NBL years, that Svitavy fans circle first when the fixture list comes out.
